About this event

  • 7 hours

This in-person tracks and signs workshop is designed to both introduce a prospective new tracker to the general concepts involved in interpreting tracks and signs and add to the knowledge of the more experienced naturalist.

We will focus on the recognition of the tracks and signs left behind by the passing of mammals.

Although the programme is aimed at anyone new to tracking or those wanting to know more about wildlife it is taught to a deep level with some real and very useful information imparted, with this in mind even those with some experience of the subject will benefit from the course.

The workshop mixes theory and practical covering:

• Foot morphology in relation to track families

• Print identification

• Scat identification

• Beds, homes and nests

• Feeding signs

• Kill sites

• Gaits and track patterns

Trainer:

Mila Saunders is a level 3 tracker certified in the Cybertracker system, achieving an impressive 99% in recognition and interpretation of track and sign Specialist Evaluation, and a level 3 in the art of trailing animals. She organises tracking and trailing courses to different locations across Europe with John Rhyder and is assisting on the long-term Wildlife Identification & Tracking course at Woodcraft School plus various other tracking programmes.

We are the only organisation involved in the study and conservation of all British mammals - from dormice to dolphins, and bats to badgers. We support a growing network of amateur and professional mammalogists and conservationists working for mammals across the country and abroad, and provide a hub of information and expertise. We are the national voice for mammal conservation, working to identify the threats mammals face and halt declines before it’s too late; we provide scientific advice to advocate sound conservation policies based on thorough research and surveying; and we inform and educate people of all ages to raise awareness of mammal conservation issues.
