Requests for work, volunteering or internships

We are currently not recruiting for any roles but please read our newsletters for any announcements. We currently do not offer any volunteer or internship placements directly with the LWA, but keep an eye out in the newsletter or on the forum for any members looking for volunteers or workers.

Academic/Research Enquiries

Please look at the Agroecology Research Collaboration to see if it fits your area of research/work.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Please take the time to explore our staff page here to see who the most relevant contact for your enquiry is.

Our addresses format is firstname.lastname@landworkersalliance.org.uk

Please bear in mind we all work part time and have limited capacity to respond to enquiries outside our core areas of work.

You can also find information under the About Us header about branch and regional organising, and identity groups within the LWA membership.

Landworkers’ Alliance Winter Shindig and AGM

Friday 22nd Nov – Mon 25th Nov

Castle Head Field Centre, Grange-over-sands, Cumbria, LA11 6QT

Members are cordially invited to the one and only Landworkers’ Alliance AGM and Winter Shindig 2019!

For our AGM and winter weekend party we will bring people together from across the UK, collectively set our agenda for the year, develop our political strategy, share stories, feast on amazing local food, sample local ales, discuss important landworking issues, undertake workshops, hear storytelling, watch films, make friends, visit local farms & projects and have a cracking dance.

We will be having the weekend long event just to the south of the incredible Lake District National Park, in the beautiful, coastal, massive Castlehead Field Centre. It’s a great location – it has a train station 30 mins walk from the centre at Grange-over-Sands. It is near to the M6, so easy to reach for both people coming from the north & south.

Who can come to the LWA AGM?

The Landworkers’ Alliance AGM and Winter Shindig is the one national event of the year, where we require those attending to be full members of the LWA.

However, if you live locally and want to come for the evenings to listen to debates, dance to music, have a pint, share a meal and find out what being a member of the LWA is about  – you are very welcome – you don’t need to be a member, we just ask you buy an evening ticket.

If you are a supporter members and want to get on the  waiting list, please email helenlandworkersalliance@gmail.com to put your name down.  If we have tickets left then we can let you know.

If you aren’t yet a member you can simply join here

If you want to check your membership is up to date just email our membership secretary Lauren at lauren@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk

Food and Drink

We are delighted to be working with the fantastic caterers from The Larder. Kay, who is overseeing the food for the event is a keen supporter of the Landworkers’ Alliance and sources her food from Lancashire farms.  The Larder is a social enterprise that works to promote food that is healthy, local, seasonal and waste free.

We are working hard to cater to all our members needs and we will be offering vegetarian, meat and vegan options throughout the event.

The Landworkers’ Arms will be opening up every evening, serving the finest local beer and cider we can find.

Entertainment

As always at Landworkers’ Alliance events we like to work hard and then party hard! This year we will have film screenings in our ‘pop up cinema’ on the Friday and Sunday night telling stories of land based resistance. We also have the one and only Northumbrian band Diddley Squat (well known for having the best ska composition offering an ode to the mighty potato!) and our in house Landworkers’ DJs DJ No-Diggidy and DJ Manglewurzel.

On Sunday night we will host renowned Northumbrian story teller Malcolm Green and musician Joshua Green who will be bringing us on a journey with the flight of the cuckoo bird.

Not to mention daily yoga for farmers.

Program of Events

Kids Space

We want to make sure parents and guardians of young kids are able to make it to the AGM. In order to facilitate this we have Forest School teachers offering a kids space on Saturday and Sunday day times while the LWA meetings are taking place.  Children will be entertained with explorer walking, pendant making, cooking on the fire, making stick men, fireside storytelling and many other things.

“A well organised and creatively held kids space with a fab staff team creating a space that makes you wish you were out there toasting apples and cinnamon on the fire with your kids” (says Clare, one of last year’s parents!)

We have a limited number of kids tickets, so please book yours asap.  If your child can sleep in the same bed with you, then they can come for free.

When you book your kids ticket, please also email Helen on helenlandworkersalliance@gmail.com  so we can chat about what kind of room would be most suitable

Liftshare

We have a self-organising lift-share system so you can all share lifts, driving and fuel together. Link to the spreadsheet is here

Simply say if you are offering a lift, when and how many seats are available and same if you are looking for a lift. Please monitor this as people will add to it between now and the weekend of the AGM.

Tickets

We’ve priced tickets as low as possible, but we need to be able to cover our expenses so it has gone up a little this year.  If you are struggling contact Helen about a bursary place.

All tickets include meals & entertainment.
